Episode 4: Campaign Confessions: Hindsight is d20/20 Part 2

In part two of the D&D 4e Campaign Confessions, we talk about what we liked and didn’t like about Chris’ Red Hands campaign. Fight! Actually, not really. Chris just quietly takes the criticism. Wayne says it’s because Chris is so easygoing. Lyal says it’s because Chris is a time bomb. You be the judge.

We touch on the use of flashbacks, what makes for a good villain, and character death.

Yujiro and Tom join us again.

Episode 3: Campaign Confessions: Hindsight is d20/20 Part 1

Yujiro is back! Welcome to our other guest host, Tom!

Campaign Confessions are episodes where we look at one of the campaigns we are playing. The first part focuses on the game system (and possibly setting), and the second part focuses on the actual story.

In our first episode of Campaign Confessions, we look at the game run by Chris: D&D 4e. We’re a little late to the party, we know. We blame the time difference between Japan and North America, which I believe is 12 hours and 18 months. Don’t tell us who won last year’s Stanley Cup, please.

About halfway through Lyal’s tangent on the Star Wars toys he owned as a kid, you’ll wonder how boring Wayne’s Toys ‘R’ Us tangent must have been to have been cut from episode 0.

Episode 2: Oh, the humanity!

In this episode, we look at the morality and motivation systems in Dungeons and Dragons, Palladium, World of Darkness and DC Heroes. We discuss whether they work for their games, whether they’d work for other games, and whether we need systems like these at all. There’s also a great tip on how your lawful good character can be a cold-blooded torturer and still stay true to their alignment. No kidding.

For those of you that thought that episodes 0 and 1 were okay but could have used more Wayne, this episode is for you.

The topic for episode 3 is alluded to at the end. Unfortunately, we lost the episode. The “experiment” is a series of mini-campaigns we have planned to explore different genres and systems. We’ll discuss these in future episodes.

Episode 1: I got your backSTORY

Character Creation: Take 2. Practice may not have made perfect in this case, but it’s certainly a lot better than our initial effort. You’re welcome!
In this episode, we discuss what should go into making a character, from the Yujiro’s “Your character in 60 seconds or less” to Lyal’s “Research and Ride-alongs”. Wayne makes a joke that he then needed to explain to Lyal after the episode. (It still wasn’t funny.)

A big thank you to Chris for working so hard to improve the sound quality.

Episode 0: Six-sided Samurai

This was originally supposed to be episode 1, but there were concerns about the sound quality. As a compromise, we decided to make this episode 0, which apparently makes all the difference in the world.

In this episode, we look at how Japan is treated in roleplaying games, and we offer some recommendations on how Japan can be used to spice up your gaming experience. Yes, someone mentions school girls. I hope this isn’t a sign of things to come.

At some point during the recording, Wayne started to think that the topic was “Things I’ve Seen at Toys ‘R’ Us”. We opted to cut out that part out, but you can still hear Lyal referring to it. Apologies for any confusion this may cause.
