Episode 198: Malifaux

We take a look at the world of Malifaux in its many incarnations including the miniatures skirmish game, the recently Kickstarted miniatures strategy game, The Other Side, and the RPG Through the Breach. Joining us is special guest Nick, the organizer of our local Malifaux group, gremlin lover and all around knowledgeable fellow regarding matters on both sides of the Breach. If you are new to Malifaux, this should give you a good taste of the setting and help you decide if now is the right time to make the leap. If you are already playing let us know in the comments which faction you play and what got you into the game. All responses will be reported to the local Guild office and any use of magic may be severely punished.

Episode 197: Living Card Games

LCG, how can I explain? I’ll take it game by game it
To have y’all clickin’, kneelin’, playin’ it
L is for “living”, C is for “card”, scratch your temple
The last G, well, that’s not that simple
Oh, wait. It is. It’s for “game”. “Living card game”.
It’s three little words that’ll empty your wallet
Don’t complain to me, I called it.
Living? Seems I gotta start explainin’ it
You ever buy a game and try to build a deck
You find an opponent and play
And then left feelin’ wrecked
You get home, build more
But you need a card, so you go to the game store
And it’s over a hundred dollars?!
It’s not a front, a F to the R to the O to the N to the T
It’s just it’s an ultra rare.

It’s LCG time, what you see is what you get
There’s no need to for an aftermarket, just buy the set
How many players out there know what I’m getting at?
Who thinks it’s wrong that victories go to the deck that’s fat?
Well, if you do, it’s LCG, and you’re down with it
But if you don’t, gather your magic

Who’s down with LCG? (Yeah, you know me!)
“LCG” by Idle by Nature

In this episode, we talk about living card games and how to get started.

Episode 195: The Last Jedi and Rogue One

I can’t stand that Galen planned that
But I’m gonna send it straight through a tiny gate
My knees are knocking now that I’m here
Because that Sith lord gives me Sith fear
So while you sit back and wonder why
What prompted Bodhi to help us fly
May the Force help you dodge
I’m tellin’ y’all it’s a sabotage
K-2S0, you ain’t saying nothin’
I can shut you down with a push of a button
But I’m out and I’m gone
But this last scene is going on and on
– “Death Star Sabotage”

In this episode, we talk about The Last Jedi and Rogue One.

Episode 191: Star Wars: The Force Awakens

The Force AwakensA long time ago in a country far, far away…

Episode CXCI
The Hands Reopen

The Idle Red Hands have vanished. In their absence, well, 2016 happened. Sorry.

A youngish (very -ish) idealist, Jeremy, knows that the world needs the Idle Red Hands and dispatches his best pilot, Alan, to retrieve the old hosts. And Alan messed it up. What do you expect when you send your best pilot? Why not send your best spy or bounty hunter? Maybe have the best pilot fly them where they want to go. Was your best spy too busy engaging in dogfights to do what he was trained to do?

Anyway, one old host returns, but is it the right one? (Disclaimer: Fans of Wayne will be disappointed.) This new alliance reviews The Force Awakens just in time for Rogue One. (Timely as always, Idle Red Hands.)

“Shut the f**k up.”
-the less famous response

With hanami (cherry blossom viewing) still fresh in their minds, Wayne and Lyal discuss festivals and the questions you need to ask yourself when including them in your game. We also discuss Savage Rifts (guitar riff), the game that threatens to break the Internet.

Episode 189: Five Games, One Shelf

In this episode, we pick the five RPGs every role player should have on his or her shelf, including which edition to have. These aren’t our five favourite games or the five most popular games of all time. Nope. These are five games whose mere possession will contribute to your overall gaming experience.

These are the criteria we used. Play along at home.

Innovative
Impact
Representative of a specific type of a game
Widespread
Paid us to mention them (Kidding. No company took us up on our offer.)
